In a Seattle Times opinion piece King County Assessor John Wilson is promoting a set of bills and constitutional amendments meant to lower property taxes for residents, refund sales taxes for low-income renters and cut personal property taxes for small businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He states, “Most states have some form of a \u201chomestead exemption,\u201d an exemption on primary residences, allowing homeowners to pay at a lower rate than commercial property owners. Washington doesn\u2019t<\/strong>. Working with a statewide bipartisan group of assessors, the bills we are proposing, Senate Bill 6249 and House Bill 2419, would remedy that by giving a tax break to those owning low- and mid-value homes.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
